My MSc by Research project at the University of Edinburgh, supervised by Taku Komura and funded by EPSRC. I optimised and analysed the effectiveness of different hardware parallelism on a motion-retargeting algorithm using OpenCL.
The goal was a system that could render hundreds of characters in real time while adapting their motion to deformities in the terrain - a large step up from the original system, which managed only a few characters. The method is based on Relationship Descriptors: descriptors embedded in the geometry near a character move with the deformed terrain, and the character’s joints are retargeted against them to produce the adapted motion.
The work was submitted and accepted as the basis for a paper at Motion in Games 2015.
